Week 1: Two Cultures
As a student at UCLA who is currently undeclared in my major, I am able to observe the crossroads of "two cultures" from the outsiders point of view. The article by Victoria Vecna, clarifies the relationship between art, science, and technology in the idea of "two cultures." As I continue to determine what major I would like to pursue, I have taken many general education classes to help find what I am interested in studying. I have taken many science based courses, along with courses that cover humanities such as english, history, and linguistics. I have learned that I have much more interest in studying in the sciences, rather than humanities. Forbes states that science has been at the center of many public discussions since 1959(Amsen). I find science much more interesting due to its recent exposure.
I'm very lucky to have the opportunity to study at such a prestigious university because the facilities built here will help set me up for success. According to Newsroom, UCLA was named the #1 public University in the nation. Knowing this, I know that I must pursue something that would benefit me well in the future. If I ultimately decide to pursue something in STEM, I would have the chance to study in world class laboratories and research facilities. Ally Gong agrees and states that UCLA in general has great facilities.

Hello Emon, I really enjoyed reading your blog post. It is nice that you get to see the two cultures as someone who hasn't decided their major yet. I didn't have that opportunity as I transferred over to UCLA as a Psychology major. I also find humanities courses to be a lot more of busy work. I never found them interesting just kind of want to get them out of the way. However, I don't really like all the science courses such as biology or chemistry. I really love my Psychology courses though that kind of science, I really enjoy and find interesting. Thank you for sharing!
